Located in the heart of Upper Montclair, Daikichi is a Japanese restaurant proudly serving a vast selection of unique sushi rolls, homemade sauces, traditional udons & soups, and small plates with modern twists! Our community has enjoyed their offerings for more than three decades and it was our extreme pleasure to handle the rebrand of this local-favorite.

Daikichi orginites from two Japanese letterforms 大 + 吉 and generally translates good fortune or really good fortune together.
The restaurant had been using 大 (along with their established date) in a stamp design and it had become their sort of logo.
Within our proposals, we decided to create
a mark that incorporated a fish & the letterform
The daikichi mark was born
and after trying a few different typesettings, styles, (outline, sumi calligraphy, outline and filled circle) final tweaks, the brand design was approved and ready to go to market.

Daikichi is a local-favorite, restaurant which has been proudly serving delicious Japanese food to the community of Upper Montclair since 1988.
